A renovated family home where old meets, and greets, new

Residential

Our Vision

This 1930s terraced house is located in a protected dyke suburb within the city limits of Amsterdam. Once a two-floor family home with an attic and cellar, we identified the opportunity for a simple intervention to adapt the dwelling to fit the lifestyle of its new owners.

Approach

Our aim is to open the building onto its garden. By enlarging the garden, increasing the level of the dyke and opening the rear facade, the house will be flooded with daylight. From the living room and kitchen, large-scale sliding windows will open onto the garden patio. To emphasis the intervention from the outside, we opted for black steel facade elements that frame the building’s large black-coated window frames. The front of the house will be carefully renovated to preserve its original appearance.
