Tweede Boerhaavestraat
A former city garage transforms into a place to work, meet and hang-out
Office
Our vision
The former 1920’s garage space is located on the ground floor of a residential building in the lively Oosterparkbuurt. A passion for film noir and motorsport characterized the initial talks between the client and VURB. These passions combined with the historical use of the space inspired us to create a neutral space in shades of grey.
Our approach
The aesthetics of the original garage was the leading design theme. Raw materials like unfinished wood construction parts, concrete, unglazed tiles, unfinished MDF, aluminum and stainless steel define the boundaries of the space. The skylight and the transparent roller shutter diffusely illuminate the space with northlight and connect the space to the green oasis on the inside of de formal brick housing block. The additional lighting and curtain concept reinforce the spatial setup. The centerpiece is the leather couch. This is the place to reflect on the world enjoying an aged whiskey.
